What Is the Covid-19 Omicron Variant and How To Protect Yourself From Itmarenzo.email@example.com
Covid-19 Omicron Variant Mutation
A newly detected covid-19 Omicron variant was detected in South Africa and has become a cause for concern worldwide. The Omicron variant has countries all over the world scrambling to close borders and set travel restrictions to stop its spread.
What is the Omicron variant, what do we know so far about it, and how do you protect yourself from it?
What is the Omicron Variant?
The earliest known case of the Omicron variant was on November 9 and the first detected mutation of it was found in South Africa on November 24. It has also been detected in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Israel, the Czech Republic, and Hong Kong. It is possible that it has already spread, however, it is unclear how far and widespread it has become as cases continue to be discovered around the world.
The omicron variant is potentially more transmissible and could pose a risk of increased reinfection. The variant has quite a number of mutations and some of these mutations detected are a cause for concern. However, more research on this new variant is underway to determine if it is more contagious if it causes more severe disease and whether the vaccines are effective or ineffective against it.
Its discovery has again sparked fears of the coronavirus all over the world. Due to this, travel restrictions have been reimposed.
The CDC has reported that there are no detected variants in the United States so far, though it would not come as a surprise if it’s already here.
President Joe Biden has announced new travel restrictions on eight South African countries – Lesotho, South Africa, Eswatini, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, and Botswana. Travel from these countries will be restricted, however, these restrictions do not apply to US citizens or green cardholders. As for travel restrictions on European and Asian nations where the Omicron has been detected, there is none so far.
How To Protect Yourself From the Omicron Variant
The Delta variant is still the dominant variant of the virus. Similar to Delta and all previously discovered variants, the key to limiting the spread of Omicron still depends on people’s willingness to follow public health responses such as getting vaccinated, following social distancing measures, using masks in high-risk areas, among others. All these steps are crucial, especially with the incoming holiday season where people get together and can cause increases in infection.
The demand for face masks has decreased but with the discovery of this new variant and how a lot of details of it still remain unknown – whether it is more contagious, causes a more severe disease, or if the current vaccines protect against it, the need for protecting one’s self through masking has become more important and needed.
The n95 mask is still the best face mask protection against Covid-19 and the Omicron variant. Bielcor N95 masks offer superior protection and are NIOSH-approved and CDC recommended. Stock up on your n95 masks and protect yourself from the Omicron variant. Get yours now at Bielcor.com.
